Today, the term "smart home" is becoming pretty common. At its simplest, it just refers to a home that has been automated in some way.
This type of home automation can consist of lights on timers or dimmers, electronics hooked up to remotes, sprinkler systems on daily automated schedules, or hot tubs and pools with automation controls. Even kitchen appliances like ovens are becoming networked and automated in this day and age. A home security system is often an integral part of a smart home.
